    Proof of Age: A birth certificate is used as proof of age to obtain a job as certain jobs have age criteria. At the time of marriage to prove attainment of marriageable age prescribed by the law to marry. For the purpose of voting, enrolling with the Electoral Rolls. Proof of age when applying for passport and visa. To obtain Driver’s license.

    Can a birth certificate be obtained without the name of the child?

    Yes, it can be obtained. In such cases, the name can be entered by the concerned registration authority without any charge within 12 months and with prescribed fees afterwards.

    Can birth be registered for children born outside the territory of India to an NRI?

    In case, any child born outside India, his/her birth would be registered at the Indian Embassy in the country.

    The accuracy of time depends on the person reported, in the case of birth in hospitals the time on the birth certificate is accurate. If still due to some reason inaccurate then can have it corrected with the registrar by filling the form and attaching the birth report obtained from the hospital.

    How to correct a spelling mistake on a birth certificate?

    With the following process, one can correct the spelling mistake in the name printed on the birth certificate. 

    Fill the Birth Certificate correction form from the Municipal Office. 

    Attach and a notarized affidavit stating the reason for the correction. To make an affidavit on a non-judicial stamp paper and notarize it, contact a lawyer expert in civil legal services. 

    Submit the same to the gazette official and publish the same in the local newspaper.


    How to get a certified copy of my birth certificate?

    You can get a certified copy of the Birth Certificate by the application of the same to the municipal office of the registrar. 

    Fill the form in block letters and make sure to enter the correct spelling of your name and fill all the details accurately. 

    Pay the prescribed fees and obtain the acknowledgment receipt.

    Check the time with the officer to obtain a copy in person or give the prepaid envelop for them to mail to you.
