You must examine your contract carefully for the maximum period of probation. Before the expiry of the same period, you may convey written communication to your superior for passing formal order on culmination of your probation period into permanent status. A response thereto would keep your informed of the reasons, if any. This will also help you in case you have to invoke your legal remedies by filing a petition.
